WORKSHOP ABSTRACT:

A Day in the Life: Four Ways Christians in Healthcare 'Look Out' on the World

Using examples of our daily interactions with patients, our community, medical colleagues (students, residents, attendings) and the public square here in New York City, we will discuss four "windows" through which Christians in healthcare are practically called to look at the world, and how you can begin to determine how God might be calling you to serve missionally in one, some, or even all of them.

PLENARY TOPIC: Are we Human Beings or Human Doings?

PLENARY ABSTRACT:

Much of the discussion of Christian missions, particularly healthcare missions, centers on what we need to do to serve God, and how that decision is made is based on a number of factors.  But while we have often heard from secular and religious sources that "what we do matters", do we realize that who we are - and what we are - is even more important and has a direct impact on what we do?  We will explore this and related concepts as we interactively construct a framework for Christians, considering where God may be calling them in healthcare, to help align their discernment with "basic principles" of faith, and how our knowledge of our relationship with God is critical to doing what He created us for.
